The bodies of several foxes and a buzzard found dead in a village garden have raised fears that they may have been poisoned. Dr Lynne Dyson, of Piccotts End House, has warned residents to be on alert after the grisly find at her home. For more details click here,

It is with great sadness that we learn of the passing of two of Piccotts End’s best-known residents. Michael Tate, (pictured) who lived at 121 Piccotts End, and Beryl Wyatt, who lived at Mill Close, had resided in the village for more than 20 years. Beryl was 94 and Michael 78.

Residents who opposed plans to erect a house at the rear of the Medieval Cottages (pictured) have won what they hope is the decisive battle. Led by Professor Tim Blinko they heard the good news this month that an appeal against an earlier decision to reject plans for a 4-bedroom house at the rear of the Medieval Cottages had failed.

Fears that a planning application would open Piccotts End Lane to through traffic have laid to rest. Yvonne Metcalfe, pictured, who lives at Amethyst Cottage (No 42) was alarmed to receive a letter from Herts County Council about an application to allow the lane to become a ‘Byway Open to All Traffic.’

Residents came out for one last festive fling at the Marchmont Arms on Twelfth Night. Social secretary Annette Harrison (pictured here on the right of the gathering) welcomed many faces old and new, including Ruud and Julie (2nd and 3rd right) from Holland who are celebrating their first year in the village and Tim and Julia Blinko (1st and 2nd left). Caroline, Lynne, Ena and Paula added to the post-festive spirit.

The last few months have raced by, leaving my blog far behind. So what’s been hot and what’s been not in Piccotts End this autumn and winter? The weather for a start. I’ve never seen daffodils in December so perhaps their appearance in borders and grassy banks is one of those ‘once in a lifetime’ occurrences. But they said that about the

One of Piccotts End’s most familiar faces has left the village. Dr Keith Hodge, known to many through his Fernville surgery, moved out this autumn. He and his wife Gill have relocated to Bath although Dr Hodge will continue to work as head of the practice during the week.

More than 70 residents enjoyed pork rolls and pyrotechnics at the annual village fireworks party. The event, which had to be postponed earlier in the month owing to bad weather, took place at Marchmont Cottage with fireworks provided by Fantastic Fireworks.

This year’s Safari Supper was one of the best attended of recent years with more than 20 residents and guests enjoying each other’s company and cooking. Big thanks to Carole Cohen and Margaret Stanier for organising such a successful evening. From starters and main courses at various homes the party ended with a surprise visit to the Medieval Cottages, courtesy of the owners Karen Murphy and Alison Wright.
