Cars vandalised

May 2016
Some time between late on Sunday night (May 8th) and 6.30 on Monday morning (May 9th) several cars parked in Piccotts End had windscreens or side windows smashed.  It is believed that up to 6 were damaged, one adjacent to 140, and another adjacent to Missden.

New plaques on show at Sunday Brunch

Plaques marking notable buildings in the village will be on show at a Sunday Brunch on May 8th. The event will be take place at the Marchmont Arms from 11pm. Plaques will include the sites of West Herts Infirmary and the Old Church. Everyone welcome.

Last month’s AGM covered a wide range of topics, from plans for a series of plaques marking notable buildings in the village to a likely date in May for the start of a Government planning inspector’s hearing on the proposed development of Marchmont Fields. 

Village faces 6 months of road closures

March 2016
Piccotts End Road, which runs through the centre of the village, will be closed from the start of April for roadworks which will last for up to 6 months. The surprise move was announced by Herts County Council in the Gazette this week. Residents will still be able to access their homes but the road will be closed to through traffic for unspecified maintenance. The road will be closed for a period of up to 30 days between April 1st and October 1st.

Poison alert after foxes and a buzzard are found dead

The bodies of several foxes and a buzzard found dead in a village garden have raised fears that they may have been poisoned. Dr Lynne Dyson, of Piccotts End House, has warned residents to be on alert after the grisly find at her home. For more details click here,

Michael Tate

Village mourns passing of two residents

March 2016
It is with great sadness that we learn of the passing of two of Piccotts End’s best-known residents. Michael Tate, (pictured) who lived at 121 Piccotts End, and Beryl Wyatt, who lived at Mill Close, had resided in the village for more than 20 years. Beryl was 94 and Michael 78.

Medieval cottages

Residents win final round of planning battle

Residents who opposed plans to erect a house at the rear of the Medieval Cottages (pictured) have won what they hope is the decisive battle. Led by Professor Tim Blinko they heard the good news this month that an appeal against an earlier decision to reject plans for a 4-bedroom house at the rear of the Medieval Cottages had failed.

Lane planning fears allayed

Fears that a planning application would open Piccotts End Lane to through traffic have laid to rest. Yvonne Metcalfe, pictured, who lives at Amethyst Cottage (No 42) was alarmed to receive a letter from Herts County Council about an application to allow the lane to become a ‘Byway Open to All Traffic.’
