PERA holds a number of social events each year. These are occasions when friends and neighbours can get together, often with their families, and enjoy a brunch, a barbecue or a fireworks display. With Covid causing the postponement of nearly all  last year’s events we are delighted to announce a bigger and better programme for 2021.

12th Night Party is a friendly farewell!

Depending how you look at it, the annual 12th Night Drinks Party is either the first date on the social calendar, or the last! It takes place every January 5th or 6th (an ecumenical question), either at a resident’s home or the Marchmont Arms. After all that turkey, stuffing and mince pies it’s time to say goodbye to another festive season with a convivial gathering of friends and neighbours.

Details of the next 12th Night drinks party will be posted here later in the year.

The Piccotts End Book Club is now in its 10th year and meets every other month to discuss a book chosen by the host member. It’s very informal and as much a social occasion as a fairly light-hearted discussion group. In other words you don’t have to be a literary genius to take part! It currently has 12 members.

The next is on Monday April 4th.

If you would like to join in, please email editor@piccottsend.org All welcome.

The Summer Garden Party

The Piccotts End summer garden party has been a village fixture for many years. It always attracts a large number of families and friends but each year depends on the generosity of a resident to make their garden available.
The next Summer Garden Party will be held in 2022.

See Gallery for photos of previous garden parties.

Scarecrow Festival

A new bi-annual event for the village, successfully inaugurated in 2021. Residents are invited to make their own scarecrow and hang it in a prominent place on their garden wall. The best scarecrows will be judged by PERA’s panel of experts. The next festival will be in 2023.

Harvest Festival

Another new bi-annual event, successfully inaugurated in 2021.  Residents are invited to exhibit their produce in five categories: Flower arrangements, Vegetables, Fruit, Cakes, Wine, Beer & Spirits. The next festival will be in 2023.

The party that goes with a bang!

The PERA fireworks party takes place every November at Marchmont Cottage. Fireworks are provided free of charge by Fantastic Fireworks and the event is supported by an army of volunteers to raise funds for village projects. The 2018 fireworks party drew a large gathering of residents, families and friends. Once again the event was blessed with a dry evening as party-goers tucked into the seasonal fare of soup, hot dogs and pork and apple rolls. The children enjoyed a treasure hunt for sweets  before the main attraction lit up the sky, drawing lots of oohs and aahs. Many thanks to our social secretary Annette Harrison and her husband Paul for doing most of the catering and organising, to Michael Nidd for the pork rolls, to Andrew and Ruth for manning the gate and to everyone else who lent a hand. More photos in the Gallery.

The 2022 fireworks party will be on Saturday November 12th at Marchmont Cottage.
