A few small geraniums have blossomed into a fantastic splash of colour beneath the Piccotts End sign by the Marchmont Arms this summer. They were planted by Yvonne Metcalfe, who lives at nearby No 42. ‘I bought them from Aldi when they were tiny plants’ she said. ‘Now look at them!’

Calling all cooks! The village’s popular Safari Supper is under starter’s orders. Organisers are on the lookout for households to take part in the event on the evening of Saturday September 25th. How does it work? Volunteer households will provide either a starter or main course for up to 4 other guests. You won’t know know who to expect until they arrive!

The twice postponed Garden Party didn’t let another drizzly day dampen spirits. In fact the skies brightened as the village’s music talent took to the stage. Jane McClelland , Simon Lilystone and Paul Borg entertained picnickers with a medley of classical and contemporary songs and tunes. There was also fun and games in the form of Tin Can Alley and Hoopla as residents chatted and exchanged village news. The oldest guest was Ena Hartland, who recently celebrated her 90th birthday, and the youngest, one-year-old Phoebe, daughter of Ian and Kate Keevil. Watch the video highlights here.

Residents can breathe a sigh of relief with the news that Dacorum’s Town Plan has been delayed. The council has announced that the plan, which would surround the village with housing developments, requires further study and review before being signed off. This could take at least two years. The village garden party, due to take place on Saturday 7th, has been postponed. Forecasts of thundery showers have put a damper on the event and the organising committee decided it prudent to re-schedule. It will now take place on Saturday August 21st from 2pm – 6pm. All residents welcome.

Piccotts End is looking as clean as a new pin after the village’s first community litter pick. Armed with picking sticks and bags provide by the council, our magnificent village volunteers spread among the highways and byways to gather an assortment of rubbish dropped in the course of the past year. Annette Harrison, PERA’s social secretary, thanked all those who came along to help give the village a summer smarten.

Due to the delay in the easing of restrictions on social gatherings the annual Summer Garden Party has been moved to Saturday August 7th. It will take place at Marchmont Cottage and a flyer with further details will be distributed to all households in July.

When a sneak thief made off with Ramon Kirchgaesser’s planter from outside his house he was determined to get it back. With the help of a neighbour’s CCTV footage, Ramon, who lives at the Boars Head, got the number plate of the car involved in the theft. Following an appeal on social media he tracked it down to an address in Gadebridge where the very embarrassed felon owned up and the pot was returned. Describing how her husband tracked it down, Ramon’s wife Carly declared: ‘He proved that crime doesn’t pay!’
