PERA extends a very warm welcome to our newest resident, Melanie Mackney. Melanie, who works in Cabin Crew for British Airways, has just moved to Riverbank from Wigginton Bottom, where she lived for the last ten years. She said she had been lured to Piccotts End by the river! ‘I’m looking forward to being a part of the residents association & am keen to learn more about the village and surrounding area.’ Melanie added: ‘ I like walking so you may see me around followed by a little black & white cat who likes walking too.’

Summer Garden Party returns to Piccotts End Farm

Following the success of last year’s Summer Garden Party at 117, Piccotts End, it will take place at the same venue again on Saturday July 1st. Mrs Miriam Wiedman Smith, whose son Toby played in the quartet who entertained everyone so marvellously last year, said she was delighted to make her home available again. Marchmont fields development now inevitable

PERA secretary Michael Nidd has delivered some depressing news about the proposed development of Marchmont Fields. Michael presented PERA’s objections at last year’s public consultation. But following publication of the inspector’s findings he says she has all but rubber-stamped its go-ahead

Emma’s debut book hits the shelves!

Piccotts End’s literary chapter has turned a new page with the debut novel of Emma Sweeney. Emma, who is a lecturer in creative writing, has just published Owl Song at Dawn, a moving story inspired by her sister Louise., who was born with cerebral palsy. The plot focuses  on an eccentric spinster who spends a lifetime in Morecambe Bay, trying to unlock the secrets of her exuberant yet inexplicable twin.

Cars vandalised

May 2016
Some time between late on Sunday night (May 8th) and 6.30 on Monday morning (May 9th) several cars parked in Piccotts End had windscreens or side windows smashed.  It is believed that up to 6 were damaged, one adjacent to 140, and another adjacent to Missden.

New plaques on show at Sunday Brunch

Plaques marking notable buildings in the village will be on show at a Sunday Brunch on May 8th. The event will be take place at the Marchmont Arms from 11pm. Plaques will include the sites of West Herts Infirmary and the Old Church. Everyone welcome.

AGM minutes

Last month’s AGM covered a wide range of topics, from plans for a series of plaques marking notable buildings in the village to a likely date in May for the start of a Government planning inspector’s hearing on the proposed development of Marchmont Fields. 

Village faces 6 months of road closures

March 2016
Piccotts End Road, which runs through the centre of the village, will be closed from the start of April for roadworks which will last for up to 6 months. The surprise move was announced by Herts County Council in the Gazette this week. Residents will still be able to access their homes but the road will be closed to through traffic for unspecified maintenance. The road will be closed for a period of up to 30 days between April 1st and October 1st.

Poison alert after foxes and a buzzard are found dead

The bodies of several foxes and a buzzard found dead in a village garden have raised fears that they may have been poisoned. Dr Lynne Dyson, of Piccotts End House, has warned residents to be on alert after the grisly find at her home. For more details click here,
