November 2012
One of the perks of running a fireworks company is that every year I get to put on a display for the village. This has become a regular feature since we moved here in 2003 and every year it attracts a large audience. Everyone chips in with offers of help, from hot soup and hot dogs to delicious pork and apple rolls. This year is another big success. Despite the threat of rain all week it turns out to be an almost perfect day, dry, still and quite mild. In the nine years we’ve been staging the party it hasn’t rained once.
Once again the social committee came up trumps with the organisation so a special thanks are due to Annette & Paul, Andrew & Ruth, Vicki & Michael, and last but not least Annette & Paul’s son Leon who helped raise more than £150 from the sale of raffle tickets.
I have been trying to update the rest of the village web site this month. It is proving to be a frustrating experience. The software that creates the site is very flaky. I have already lost most of the photos in the Gallery and trying to add photos from the fireworks party isn’t producing the right format. So please bear with me while I try to sort out the problem.
We are not having much luck with our cats. Having lost two last year, both the victims of dog attacks, we bought two lovely black and white kittens from the RSPCA sanctuary near Shenley. We christened them Ant and Dec and they were getting on famously in our newly dog-proofed garden. That was until last week. Driving to work one morning I spotted a crumpled mass of black and white fur on the side of the road. It was poor old Ant. Safe in the garden but not, alas, on the busy Link Road. We can’t have a Dec without an Ant so the search is on for a lookalike.
