The Reds Kites that fly so majestically over our skies are now becoming such a nuisance that residents have launched an appeal to discourage people from feeding them. On some days more than 50 can be seen swooping over village gardens, causing some residents to feel threatened. Steve Pears, who lives at the top end of the village, reported an incident where a kite swooped down on his table while he was enjoying an alfresco meal. Another said the kites were gathering in such large numbers because of a regular supply food being left out for them. Discouraging the feeding of kites, The Chiltern Conservation Board says on its web site (see QR code on the image) that while they are mainly scavengers, kites are emboldened by an abundance of food. Instead of spreading further afield in search of sustenance, they flock in their home territory. As a result they can become increasingly bold and threatening to the local neighbourhood.
