Red kites pay a flying visit to Mill Close!

red kiteMill Close resident Charlie Shearman has captured this remarkable photo of a quite magnificent visitor to his garden. Swarms of red kites over the Dodds Lane end of the village have been likened to something out of the Alfred Hitchcock film The Birds. Charlie has witnessed them up close and personal when one swooped on his garden to pick up a few tasty morsels he’d put out. ‘It’s an incredible sight,’ he said. For the rest of the village red kites are a familiar sight high overhead, but usually in ones or twos. They pose no threat to humans or pets, feeding mainly on carrion and small field rodents.
