The sun shone, the bakers baked, the singers sang and everyone had a marvellous time! The village Platinum Jubilee street party was celebrated by nearly 100 residents, who brought their picnics to the dozens of colourfully decorated tables laid out down the road.
The highlight was the array of amazing cakes baked by our talented cooks. They were judged by our VIP guest Lady Val Corbett, who chose a beautiful Union Jack themed cake covered in colourful Smarties made by Kate Keevil of Wall Cottage.
Special thanks too to Mark Chapman of The Granary who brought his fantastic A Capella singers to entertain everyone with a medley of songs including a hugely enjoyable singalong rendition of We Will Rock You.
Among the many distinguished guests were village veterans Mary Wiedman, pictured here, Julia Baird, Frank & Pauline Willcocks, Ena Hartland, and Michael & Pat Nidd. Among the youngest was 2-year-old Phoebe Keevil, daughter of Ian and Kate of Wall Cottage.
Many residents have emailed to say how much they enjoyed the event.
‘Congratulations to all those who organised the wonderful street party yesterday!’ said Val Corbett.
‘I felt so happy to have been a small part of the wonderful street party which I, together with so many residents attended yesterday’ wrote Ena Hartland of The Old Mill.
‘I would like to thank everyone who helped at the wonderful street party. Very festive atmosphere and the tables looked lovely’ said Pauline Willcocks of The Granary.
‘It was just so lovely to see everyone together … we at one end often never quite know who lives up the other end of the village!’ said Yvonne Metcalfe of No 42.
Paying tribute to everyone who helped to make the event such a memorable occasion, Sue Leach of Riverbank said ‘There were so many people on hand to help set up and clear away, we couldn’t have done it without them.’
A final shout-out to Holly Cross of Piccotts End Farm, who with the help of Sue, Yvonne, Carly of the Boars Head, Heather of Greenbanks and Anna of Piccotts End House pulled the whole show together. Their verdict? Let’s do it again!
