And the Christmas No 1 is…No 5!
Piccotts End is aglow with Christmas lights at this time of the year. It’s always worth a trip down the road to see who’s put on the most spectacular show. From colourful tree arrangements to a modest festoon nearly everyone is joining in the Christmas spirit. Our house is making do with lights that are at least 5 years old. I bought them from Ayletts and they still look great, like huge balls of illuminated mistletoe floating in the air. But up at the far end of the village, in Mill Close, there is a light show that eclipses all others. It’s the all-singing, all-dancing, all-glowing extravaganza laid on by the residents of No 5, Ford and Amy Williams. From illuminated lamp-posts and domed bushes decked out like twinkling Christmas puddings to Dasher, Dancer and Prancer in brilliant white atop the garage roof, this is Lightsville Las Vegas! Goodness knows how long they took to put up but for Ford, Amy and their two children Robin and Olive it’s a labour of love. They moved to the village 5 years ago and Amy told me ‘We love it here’. Not only the village itself but they clearly love making it brighter for everyone else. Long may they continue to live here!
