It rained on every other parade but not on ours! Thanks to the Marchmont Arms, a terrific turnout of villagers, families and friends and the hard work of the social committee, the PERA Jubilee Party was a huge success. More than 130 people shrugged off the weather and donned red, white and blue to make it a Right Royal party. When the manager of the Marchmont made his offer to use the premises back in March there was some concern that it wouldn’t be quite the same as a street party. But come June 3rd and nonstop rain, everyone was grateful for the warmth and comfort of the Marchmont’s conservatory. The biggest draw was the cake competition which drew some mouthwatering entries. Hemel Hempstead’s MP Mike Penning dropped in and chatted to residents while the kids were just happy to go outside and get wet! Val Corbett, wife of the late PERA chairman Robin, thanked eveyone for making it such a wonderful occasion and officially handed over the reins to our new chairman David Stanier. The party wrapped up around 5pm with the organisers feeling tired but triumphant. A special vote of thanks and presentation was made to PERA’s social secretary Annette Harrison who worked so hard to make it happen. See more photos in the Gallery.
